It takes a couple of minutes and doesn't need to be arranged in advance.

You'll Still Need To Tell The DVLA

Selling a car normally means sending off the V5C's yellow slip to let the DVLA know you're no longer the registered keeper. Without the V5C, that step doesn't disappear, it just has to be done differently: you'll need to write to the DVLA directly with the vehicle's registration, make, and any details you can provide, rather than relying on the usual slip. It's worth doing promptly, since staying the registered keeper on paper can leave you liable for tax or penalties on a car you no longer own.
